Belfast experienced most of its growth during the Industrial Revolution in Victorian times, and the stamp left on the city by the entrepreneurs of the time remains clearly visible to this day in the exquisite, period architecture of many beautiful old buildings. These have either been meticulously-kept over the centuries, or lovingly restored for new generations to enjoy. Even the City Hall is a bit of standing history, and well worth a visit by any tourist who wants to gain a better understanding and appreciation of the city itself. CS Lewis, author of the Chronicles of Narnia, had a long-standing love of his hometown of Belfast and the city has made a tribute to him in its “CS Lewis trail.” Belfast is also home to The News-Letter; first printed in 1737, it is the oldest English-speaking newspaper in the world.
